Artist Photoshoot With Kayla Thornquist
Art and photography - two things that make me so happy. Some may say that photography is art, and others argue that they are not the same. For me, they are both creative outlets for one to explore and use his or her imagination. You can do many things with a camera, and you can also do many things with a paintbrush.
I had the pleasure of photographing a local comic book artist, illustrator, and friend - Kayla Thornquist. Kayla’s playful and beautiful spirit lights up a room as soon as she walks into it. With little direction, she lit up my camera with her smile and contagious laugh.
We gathered at The Old Manse in Concord, MA on a chilly fall day. This is one of Kayla’s favorite places to take a walk and escape the crazy lifestyle that many of us endure.
Kayla started creating art when she was in college, doing a few gigs here and there. I was so ecstatic to hear that she did the illustrations for a children’s book not too long ago. She continues to dabble in this area of art, and you can find more of her beautiful work here: https://kmthornquist.wordpress.com/
Our goal for this photoshoot was to capture Kayla with her artwork in a casual setting and get some portraits of her for her website. I’ve found that no matter how talented an artist is, many of them have trouble promoting themselves. In Kayla’s case, she didn’t have any professional photos of herself or her art that she could showcase on her website. Now, she has an array to choose from!
Here are some of the photos we took on this chilly, but beautiful day:
For my fellow photographers: I used a 5D Mark IV with a 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Until next time!
